Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the misconceptions and learning difficulties in double integral of the university students. The information gathering groups for qualitative research methods was selected form the second year students of the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Informatics, at the Manas University. The influence of the use of the graphics and the devolepment in the preference of the use of graphics in learning processes were analyzed. At the result of this study, it was observed that the important misconception of the thought of the region of integral is the simple rectangular region. In addition the misconception of dx.dy = du.dv is also observed. In double integral processes, the region of integral as mathematical sentence, the drawing of graphics in integral region, the difficulties of simple vercital regions and simple horizontal region. It was also observed that students have some preferences in using analytical method and difficulties in the use of graphical methods. When the lack of information in mathematical concepts is removed, the experience of graphical drawing is accumulated, the trends in visual strategies is also accumulated.
