Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine and evaluate the analysing steps of two poems in one of the course books which is entitled Glencoe Literature: Reading with Purpose, Course One that is used in the 6th grade Language Arts Course One in America.. In this study that is made using the survey model which is one of the descriptive research patterns, information is drawn out of Ryan Benetz , teacher in SSA Phoenix, by using the correspondence technique. GLRwP consists, three books – Student edition, Learner’s notebook and Teacher’s edition – are used and there’s also a website designed for these books. Every unit of this book that is shaped as “the big question” and “genre focus” consists of five steps – “warm-up”, “four reading workshops”, “two-part writing workshop”, “comparing literature workshop” and “wrap- up”. Furthermore the course book has a “total of units” that is shaped by “the big question” and “genre focus”. Although a certain type of text is emphasized in every unit, different types of texts can be seen that enable students to compare and contrast the types of texts.
