Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the critical thinking dispositions of teacher candidates attending education faculties and to investigate if these dispositions change according to some variables (department they attend, type of high school they graduated from and academic achievement). The sample of the study is 165 teacher candidates on department of elementary education from fourth classes of elemantary teaching, elemantary mathematics teaching and elemantary social sciences departments. As a data collection tool, “The California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory” was used in the study. The results indicated that the critical thinking dispotisions of the teacher candidates are low in general, but in some sub dimensions it is in positive directions but still not high. According to department they attend, it was seen that there is a difference between groups in some sub dimensions. Also, it was identified that that the critical thinking dispotisions of the teachers candidates don’t show significant difference according to type of high school they gruduated from and academic achievement.
