Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the systematic learning approach implemented in the second grade life sciences course in elementary school and to analyze the cost of the curriculum prepared in accordance with the systematic learning approach. The study was conducted in the 2013-2014 academic year with two classes, as experimental and control groups, in an elementary school in the Ulukışla District located in the Province of Niğde, Turkey. A "mixed design" was used in this study, which utilizes quantitative and qualitative research designs together. Quantitative data were obtained with an achievement test prepared in accordance with expert opinions. The overall Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient of the measurement tool was found to be 0.82. And, observations were made in the experimental group and interviews were conducted with students in order to obtain qualitative data. According to the results of the study, it can be said that the systematic learning approach implemented in the second grade life sciences course in elementary school increases the academic achievements of students and a permanent learning is achieved through wealth of experience thanks to the systematic learning approach.
