Abstract

Development of critical thinking skills has been considered as an important purpose at the entire education stages, from primary to university educations. In this study, the level of critical thinking tendencies of high school students from Bayındır, a district of İzmir province, was investigated. Data were obtained by applying “Critical Thinking Tendency” scale, reported by Akbıyık (2002). Students from the district of İzmir province, Bayındır, constituting the research’s population. Since it was impossible to attain the whole population, 450 students were taken to sampling by the proportional cluster sampling method. “SPSS (Statistical Packages for Social Sciences) for Windows” software was used to evaluate the data. The Cronbach’s Alpha reliability co-efficient of the measurement tool is r=0,57. According to the results of this study, it was concluded that most of the high school students have critical thinking tendency and class distinction has an important effect.
