WRITTEN EXPRESSION MISTAKES OF TURKIC PEOPLE LEARNING TURKISH OUTSIDE OF TURKEY: ON THE EXAMPLE OF IRAN

Abstract

Turkish is a language with a long history which is spoken in many places of the world by over two hundred million people and has approximately thirty dialects and several accents. The Western Turkish branch which starts in early 20th century and lasts to date is called Turkey Turkish. Today Turkish is taught both as a native language and as a foreign language in Turkey and outside of Turkey as well. Turkic peoples are the prominent part of Turkish learners and Turkish is being studied in almost all regions of the Turkic world. And Iran is one of the regions that Turkish is taught as a foreign language. Azeri people who live in Iran have various motivations to study Turkish. Iranian Turks encounter some problems while studying Turkish and make certain mistakes typical to the Turkic peoples. These mistakes are usually based on translations from Azerbaijani to Turkish and also translations from Persian to a certain degree. In this study, common written mistakes made by Iranian Turkic people were analyzed with content analysis method, a type of qualitative research method, and also listed by titles. Furthermore, the reasons of the common written mistakes were attempted to be explained and possible solutions were suggested to reduce such written mistakes of the Turkic-speaker target group.
