Abstract

This study examines the effects of computer-based 5E learning model according to constructivist approach on the students’ achievement on the Science and Technology class, Light unit. In addition the study aims to determine participants’ thoughts about the application of the study. In the study, a special case method was carried out, which quasi-experimental research design including control group with pre-test and post-test was applied in it, and the data was gathered by the academic success test and semi structured interview forms. The traditional lessons were executed in the control group, and the lesson plans prepared according to computer-based 5E learning model were applied to the experimental group. The lessons for experimental group were executed by benefiting from the sources like MEB Vitamin, Fen Okulu, Phet etc. The study group is comprised of fifty-six 7th grade students from 2 different branches of 23 Nisan Secondary School, located in Gaziantep. The implementation was executed for 4 weeks in the second term of 2012-2013 academic year. The results obtained in this study reveals that computer-assisted constructivist approach is more effective in improving students’ achievement compared to traditional learning method. As for qualitative data analysis results indicate that participated students have favourable opinions about computer -assisted teaching in general.
