THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENTIATED FOREIGN LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION ON GIFTED STUDENTS' CRITICAL THINKING FARKLILAŞTIRILMIŞ YABANCI DİL ÖĞRETİMİNİN ÜSTÜN ZEKÂLI ÖĞRENCİLERDE ELEŞTİREL DÜŞÜNMEYE ETKİSİ
The main aim of the study is to test the effectiveness of a differentiated English Program on gifted students’ critical thinking skills. So, an English unit called ‘’Health Problems’’ differentiated. Control Group pre-test post-test experimental pattern is used and groups are decided according to the Raven SPM Plus test and Cornell Critical Thinking test results at random. Except Raven SPM, Critical Thinking test administered as pre and post-tests to experimental and control groups. The participants were 24; 5th grade students of the project school of Istanbul University, Beyazıt Ford Otosan Primary School which aimed to educate gifted students at primary and secondary levels. In the statistical analysis of data, Mann Whitney-U and Wilcoxon Signed-Ranks Tests used. The results of the study revealed that the differentiated English program, designed for the gifted students, increased the English critical thinking of the participants.
