THE OPINIONS OF 4TH GRADE TEACHERS OF PRIMARY SCHOOL RELATED WITH HUMAN RIGHTS CITIZENSHIP AND DEMOCRACY

Abstract

While citizenship and democracy education course is given in the 8th grade, it is started to be given to Grade 4 in the elementary school as democracy, human rights and citizenship classes for the first time in the 2015 -2016 academic year. In this research, human rights, citizenship and democracy course which will be applied for the first time intended to be evaluated according to the opinions of the teacher of the 4th grade who will practice for the first time. For this purpose, interview form including 5 personal and 5 open-ended questions was applied to 77 teacher of the 4th grade from 39 provinces creating online live form via e-mail and first hand. Research was based on qualitative research. In this research, case study design which is one of the qualitative research methods was used. The result of this research, 52% of teachers of the 4th grade respond negatively to the lesson which takes place in the 4th grade schedule while 48% of them respond positively. 89 % of teachers reported that they faced with the challenge of teaching the course while 11 % of them had no difficulties. Also, 66 % of the teachers did not approve the content of the book while 34 % of them approve.
