Abstract

Humboldt’s biography should be evaluated in the context of the developments of the period he lived in, and the educational policies he suggested cannot be considered separately from the social, economic and political developments of that time. Broad reforms were made in the area of Educational sciences in Prussia in early 19th century. Wilhelm von Humboldt has a remarkable place within these reforms, as Humboldt left traces on German Education System. Although it has been 200 years since his time, Humboldt’s theories are still discussed. The purpose of the present study is examining and presenting Humboldt’s personal biography, his ideas and especially his theories in the field of education within the historical period he lived in.
