EFFECT OF ROLE PLAYING TECHNIQUE WITH FORMING DIFFERENT DISABILITY LEVELS FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASSES ON THE EMPATHY LEVELS OF STUDENTS

Abstract

The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of physical education classes with role playing technique, delivered through forming disability on the level of students’empathy. This study was carried out in a secondary school in Bolu of 2015-2016 education year. This study was a quasi-experimental design with pre-post test control groups. Totally 35 students were participated in this study, 18 students in experiment group and 17 students in control group. In data collection, “Basic Empahty Scale” by Jolliffe and Farrington (2006) was used. Adaptation of this scale to Turkish was done by Topçu, Erdur-baker and Çapa-Aydın (2010). In statistical analysis two-way Anova for repeated measures was applied. In conclusion, although there was no significant differences between control and experiment groups in their post-test of cognitive and affective empathy scores, the total empathy scores of experiment group was reported significanly higher. However there was no significant difference between the pre and post-test scores of both groups in cognitive, affective and total empathy scores. In addition, there was no significant difference in gender x process main effect of students’ cognitive, affective and total empathy scores.
