Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to examine the depression, anxiety, stress and self-esteem levels of mothers as a predictor of self-esteem in middle school students. Another aim of the study is to show whether the self-esteem of middle school students is significantly differentiated according to the level of education of their mothers. The sample of the research is composed of 150 students and 150 mothers, 74 of whom are girls and 76 of whom are students, in various secondary schools in Samsun's Havza and Alaçam districts. The model of the research was cross-sectional relational screening model and the participants were determined by appropriate sampling method with non-random sampling methods. In order to determine the self-esteem levels of the students, the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale to determine the self-esteem levels of the mothers, the gender, age, class level, And Depression Anxiety Stress Scale were used to determine depression, anxiety and stress levels of mothers. Data were analyzed with the help of SPSS 17 packet program and One Way ANOVA and Multiple Regression Analysis methods were used. It was determined that the self-esteem level of the middle school students significantly changed according to the education levels of the mothers, the mothers self-esteem level predicted the self-esteem level of the middle school students positively and the depression, anxiety and stress levels of the mothers did not predict the self-esteem level of the middle school students.
