This research aims to determine the contribution of context-based vocabulary teaching method to word gains of fourth grade students in primary school. A quantitative model with qualitative support was used in the study. In the study, a semi-structured interview form consisting of three-point Likert form developed by researchers in order to collect pretest, posttest and permanence test data and open-ended questionnaire aimed at determining the thoughts of context-based vocabulary teaching method of primary school fourth grade students were used. Two different study groups were studied in this research. The obtained data were analyzed by t-test of dependent samples, pearson moment product correlation and thematic coding technique. As a result of the research, it has been found that the effect of context-based vocabulary teaching method on the permanence of learned words is meaningful. The experiment group stated that this method is fun, enjoyable, different and they wanted to continue to learn by this method.
