Abstract

Researches related to language learning have been in progress for many years. The results of these resarches generally put forth the relationship between sociocultural and psychological factors of language learning as well as the term communication competence in language learning has stood out in recent researches. Especially teacher’s communicative competence is noteworthy in the achivement of foreign language learning. In this sense, it is expressed that communicative competence in a foreign language learning is not only based on grammer and rules of language, but also sociolinguistic, strategic discourse knowledge competence. In this study, teacher’s communicative competence has been evaluated by the questionnaire-Communication Competence Scale- developed by Korkut Owen and Bugay (2014) which contains 25 questions. Participants agreeing to have face to face questionnaire are the students who have been studying English as a foreign language at a university. The results have been evaluated by frequency, factor analysis and t-test. At the end of this study it was found that all the factors in the study have importance at approximate levels; nevertheless, the factor- appreciating- has been highly accepted. In addition to this, there is no difference while learning a foreign language considering the gender in evaluating teacher’s communicative competence.
