Abstract

Education process to be conducted properly is only possible on the condition that needs such as physical opportunities, security and discipline are required. Especially in the point of providing school security, the most important duty falls on guard teachers. The purpose of this research is to determine the thoughts of the teachers about the school guard duty. Research is descriptive, and it has been prepared with case study model. Study group of research consists of teachers serving at primary state schools which are under the control of Ministry of National Education at 2013-2014 school year at Istanbul and Canakkale. Data of research is achieved with structured interview form, prepared by the researchers, including questions which are not directive. At the analysis of data, content analysis technique suitable for qualitative research method has been used. At the result of data analysis of research, it has been detected that most of the primary school teachers identify the school guard duty as providing order and control of students at break and as ensuring school security, and it has been seen that teachers state different opinions about necessity of school guard duty, contribution to functioning of schools and responsibilities to have within school guard duty.
