Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal the perceptions of trainee preschool teachers of the pedagogical content knowledge test. The content knowledge test, the score from which accounts for 50% of the score prerequisite for a teaching position at a public school, is suggested to assess trainee teachers’ content knowledge, which they have supposedly acquired in teaching-oriented classes. Therefore, their perceptions of and attitudes towards this test are considered greatly important. This is a case study where a qualitative research method is adopted. The sampling of the study consists of 20 last (fourth) year students of Early Childhood Education Department at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. A semi-structured interview form was used as the data collection tool. Content analyses were carried out to analyze the obtained data. It can be suggested that majority of the trainee teachers of early childhood education consider content knowledge test as a necessary practice.
