Abstract

In this research, it is aimed to analyse the opinions of the teachers, working in preschools, about the book centers in the class-rooms. This research covers 39 state pre-school teachers from Bingol City Centre, whom voluntarily joined to the research. The data of the research were collected through a semi-structured "Teacher Interview Form" developed by the researchers and a "Personal Information Form" in which the teachers' personal information was included. “Interview technique” was used as a method from qualitative research methods. One of the teachers who participated in the research stated that there was no book center in her classroom. The other 38 teachers stated that the book centers in their classrooms were sufficient for preschool education in terms of the number of books, the contents of the books, the layout of the book centers and the dimensions of the books Those 38 teachers indicated that they consider the developmental characteristics of the students, the age of the students, teacher’s own daily plan, and the contents of the books when choosing books for the centers. And it is concluded that variety of the books in the centers are inadequate. According to these results, improvements can be suggested around the functionality of the book centers.
