Abstract

The purpose of this paper is twofold: to describe time allocation for teaching math in preschools and explore preschool teachers’ views on math teaching. The population of the research is preschool teachers in Turkey. Through random sampling, 165 preschool teachers working in preschools of MoNE comprise the sample of the study. This study is designed in survey model. Information form and “Evaluation form for preschool teachers’ time allocation in teaching math and their views on math teaching” which was created considering “Teacher Questionnaire Instrument” were used as data collection tools. Validity was ensured based on the original form. The evaluation form was originally developed by Clements and Sarama (2000/2014) in Building Blocks project and validity was measured by the researchers for the current study. Data was analyzed through frequency and percentage distribution. Findings show that teachers spend less time in teaching math than an ideal math teaching program. Also, teachers reported not to feel completely ready for teaching math though they see math teaching very important.
