Abstract

Parental involvement is defined through variables such as parents 'expectations and wishes, parental control and house rules, activities of child at home, parents' attitudes towards the school, communication with teachers, checking of homework, volunteering in class/school activities. Literature shows that involvement has significant benefits for the development and effectiveness of school as a whole, as well as for students, families and teachers. Despite the legal registrations to ensure participation and some projects carried out by the MNE in Turkey, the practices are far from reaching the desired level. The attitudes of parents, teachers and administrators is one of the most important factor determining how and which level they will involve or their wishes/expectations for parental involvement. Moreover, the first step in achieving the success and continuity of participation activities in a classroom or school is the positive attitude of all individuals involved in the process, However, literature states negative attitudes towards family participation rather than positive attitudes.
