Abstract

Childhood is one of the most evolving phenomena. Human and future imagination of every period of history, social expectations, and beliefs have affected and changed the point of view to child and childhood. The childhood in different meanings like an absence presence to be completed in adulthood, an empty plate or a trust of God, is now treated with a unique assessment that has a distinctive world, a form of understanding and difference. Along with the original evaluation approaches, many studies have focused on examining childhood from different aspects and a wide range of literature has emerged. In many agreements, child and childhood take an authentic place with separate rights. It is observed that children have the knowledge about the mentioned assessments and rights either in their natural environment through hidden learning or through media such as books, television, and internet. In our study, children’s rights in books that are the most important knowledge acquisition tool will be analyzed. For this purpose the first five books belonging to native and foreign authors who made the most sales from different publishing houses in the pre-school period, story sub-category of an internet page (kitapyurdu.com) are handled in order to analyzed in terms of children’s rights. It was seen that negative expressions took place more than positive expressions in the books examined. It has been also determined that development, protection and participation rights except the right to life have never been given places in those books.
