Abstract

Psychological well-being level can, in general, be described as individuals’ management of existential contestation. Self-acceptance, positive relations with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, purpose in life, and personal growth are the six dimensions that constitute psychological well-being. Primary purpose of this research is to unveil predictive power of university students’ self-efficacy and interaction anxiousness levels on psychological well-being. A total of 215 students, from which 127 (59%) students are female and 88 (41%) students are male, have participated to the study. Sample was drawn from all students who enrolled different programs under Faculty of Education in Mehmet Akif Ersoy University during 2015-2016 academic year. The data were gathered by means of the psychological well-being scale, self-efficacy scale, and interaction anxiousness scale. In this research, to manifest the predictive power of self-efficacy and interaction anxiousness levels on psychological well-being, standard multiple-regression analysis was employed. Based on the obtained results, self-efficacy and interaction anxiousness account for 15% of variation in psychological well-being. Both regression coefficients for self-efficacy and interaction anxiousness are statistically significant while they are in different directions such that the former coefficient is positive and the latter is negative.
