Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the fluent reading skills of primary school students based on various variables. Fluent reading skills of the students were also compared based on type of school, gender, socio- economic level, parent educational level, mother employment status. Among the general survey models, relational survey model was used in this study. Video camera and tape recorders were used to determine the number of words read. Descriptive statistics were determined; t-test and Kruskal-Wallis H test were applied to independent groups. Fluent reading skills of the students did not varied significantly based on type of school, gender and socio- economic level. However, the students with low socio-economic level had lower correct reading ability than the ones with high socio-economic level.
