Abstract

In current study, investigation of the predictive role of childhood traumas and hopelessness on counselor trainees’ psychological symptoms was aimed. The research was performed with 195 counselor trainees. The data was collected through Childhood Traumas Scale, Brief Symptom Inventory, Beck Hopelessness Scale and personal information form. In data analysis descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, hierarchic regression analysis techniques were used. According to results, childhood traumas and hopelessness were significantly and positively correlated with psychological symptoms (hostility, somatization, negative self perception, depression and anxiety) of counselor trainees. Childhood traumas and hopelessness significantly predicted psychological symptoms of counselor trainees. While childhood traumas singly accounted for 29 % of change in psychological symptoms of counselor trainees, childhood traumas and hopelessness together accounted for 39% of change in psychological symptoms of counselor trainees. According to obtained findings, it can be said that counselor trainees’ childhood traumas effect their hope level about future and lead to revealing of psychological symptoms.
