THE IMPORTANCE OF FOLK POETS IN TEACHING OF LIFE SCIENCE COURSE VALUES: A SAMPLE OF NEŞET ERTAŞ

Abstract

The goal of this research is to determine the importance of minstrels in giving education of Life Science class. By this purpose, the fact of mentioning minstrels in Life Science classes and curriculums has been analyzed as part of Neşet Ertaş. The research is a qualitative work with regard to its topic, its system of data gathering and its goals. The first data source was analyzed by using document analyzing method on behalf of value educations which are Life Science student books and workbooks of 1, 2 and 3rd grade of state schools under the Ministry of National Education of Izmir in 2013-2014 academic year and 2009 Life Science curriculum which are coherent with sub problems. Furthermore, a teaching plan based on Neşet Ertaş’s works was applied for third class at primary school and students were asked for their own opinions. The outcome of the research can be summarised as follows: It is clear that folk poets did not include in 1, 2 and 3rd grade primary school students’ student book and workbooks under the title of teaching values. The study showed that Neşet Ertaş’s poems emphasize values as self-respect, truth, honesty, patriotism, love, respect, justice, tolerance, patience, opennes to innovation. Consequently, folk poets can be used for teaching of Life Science lesson course values and more research is needed on this issue.
