Abstract

This study was conducted to elicit by means of metaphor the perceptions of teacher candidates participating on “pedagogical formation certification program” towards the concepts of mathematics. Study group of the research consists of 255 students, from sixteen different programs, who receive pedagogical formation education in the Gazi University, Faculty of Education in 2017-2018 academic year. In order to find out their metaphorical perceptions about mathematic concept, to teacher candidates participating in the study group were asked to fill in the blanks, “Math is like... , because...” prepared by the researcher. Content analysis method has ben used to analyze the findings. The obtained data are presented in tables and figures respectively in the findings of the study. As a result of the study can be seen that big quantity of teacher candidates depending on the source and the reason of the metaphors have prefered; “essence of life”(19%), “awful”(15%), “hard to understand, unknown” (14%), “funny and relaxing”(13%). And, it turns out that the metaphores they use generally are “life”, “puzzle” and “game”
