Abstract

The purpose of the study is to adapt the Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS) which was originally develeoped by Salovey, Mayer, Goldman, Turvey ve Palfai (1995) to Turkish and examine the validity and reliability of the scale. The sample of the study consisted 646 (420 female, 226 male) undergraduate students enrolled in different faculties of a state university in Turkey. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to evaluate the construct validity of the scale. The result of the study indicated that the scale composed of 19 items and three factors including, “emotional attention”, “emotional clarity”, and “emotional repair”. The results also showed that internal consistency coefficients of the factors as estimated by Cronbach alpha were .73 for emotional attention, .70 for emotional clarity, and .73 for emotional repair. As a result, all the findings suggested that the TMMS can be used as a valid and reliable instrument for measuring the emotional awareness of Turkish university students.
