Abstract

Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to examine the relationships between perceived parental attitudes and emotional problems and social anxiety in adolescents. 397 high school students, 198 girls and 199 boys, aged between 13-16, participated in the study. Demographic Data Form, the Egna Minnen Betraffande Uppfostran-Short Form (S-EMBU), the Social Anxiety for Adolescents (SAS-A) and the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) were used as data collection instruments. T test, Pearson correlation analysis and simple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the obtained data. As a result of the analyzes; social anxiety level of adolescents, difficulties experienced, emotional problems and their positive social behaviors differed according to gender. Girls have higher levels of social anxiety than boys, experiencing more emotional problems and difficulties and exhibited higher positive social behavior. In addition, it was understood that the parental attitudes perceived by the adolescents predicted the social anxiety, adolescents difficulties and emotional problems and the social behaviors he/she has. At the same time, it is among the findings that the as the emotional problems experienced by adolescents increase, the level of social anxiety also increased. It was observed that the emotional warmth perceived by the adolescents from their parents reduced their social anxiety, emotional problems and difficulty levels. It has been determined that there is a negative relationship between the prosocial behaviors of the adolescents and the difficulty levels they experience, and a positive relationship between the total difficulty and social anxiety and emotional problems. The findings were discussed in the light of the relevant literature.
