Covid-19 Salgın Sürecinin Belirsizliğinde Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Psikolojik Sıkıntıları ve Başa Çıkma Tarzlarının İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu araştırma ile Covid-19 salgın sürecinin belirsizliğinde üniversite öğrencilerinin psikolojik sıkıntı düzeyi ve başa çıkma tarzlarının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini bir Vakıf Üniversitesinin Sağlık Hizmetleri Meslek Yüksekokulu öğrencileri oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada örneklem seçimine gidilmemiş olup,  araştırmaya gönüllü olarak katılmayı isteyen 671 öğrenci dahil edilmiştir. Verilerin elde edilmesinde öğrencilerin sosyo-demografik özelliklerinin yer aldığı bilgi formu, Psikolojik Sıkıntı Ölçeği (K10-PSÖ) ve Stresle Başa Çıkma Tarzları Ölçeği (SBTÖ) kullanılmıştır. Gerçekleştirilen normal dağılım analizinde verilerin normal dağılmadığı gözlemlenmiştir. Bu nedenle normal dağılıma sahip olmayan verilerde karşılaştırmalar için Mann Whitney-U ve Kruskal Wallis-H testi uygulanmıştır. Ayrıca normal dağılıma sahip olmayan ölçüm değerlerinin birbirleriyle ilişkisinin incelenmesinde kullanılan “Spearman” korelasyon katsayılarına bakılmıştır. Sonuçlara göre, üniversite öğrencileri orta düzeyde psikolojik sıkıntı yaşamaktadır. Kadın öğrencilerin psikolojik sıkıntı düzeyi, erkeklere göre daha yüksektir. Başa çıkma tarzları alt boyut puanlarının cinsiyete, yaşa, çalışma durumuna ve hanede yaşayan kişi sayısına göre farklılaştığı belirlenmiştir. Üniversite öğrencilerinin psikolojik sıkıntıları için etkili başa çıkma becerilerine sahip olmaları yönünde psikolojik açıdan desteklenmeleri gerekmektedir.

Abstract

With this research, it was aimed to determine the psychological distress level and coping styles of university students in the uncertainty of the Covid-19 epidemic process. The universe of the research consisted of the students of Vocational School of Health Services of a Foundation University. Sample selection was not made in the study, and 671 students who wanted to voluntarily participate in the study were included. In order to obtain the data, the information form including the socio-demographic characteristics of the students, the Psychological Distress Scale (K10-PSÖ) and the Styles of Coping with Stress Scale (SSTS) were used. In the normal distribution analysis performed, it was observed that the data were not normally distributed. For this reason, Mann Whitney-U and Kruskal Wallis-H tests were used for comparisons in data that did not have a normal distribution. In addition, "Spearman" correlation coefficients, which are used to examine the relationship between measurement values that do not have normal distribution, were examined. According to the results, university students experience moderate psychological distress. The psychological distress level of female students is higher than that of males. It was determined that coping styles sub-dimension scores differed according to gender, age, employment status and the number of people living in the household. University students should be supported psychologically to have effective coping skills for their psychological problems.
