Abstract
Araştırmanın amacı, 2017/2018 öğrenim yılından itibaren devlet okullarında programa dahi edilen, ortaokul 5. sınıflarda yabancı dil ağırlıklı eğitim uygulamasının öğretmen görüşleri çerçevesinde değerlendirilmesidir. Bu amaçla uygulamanın yapıldığı 3 okulda görev yapan 10 öğretmenden, 5 sorudan oluşan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile veriler toplanmış, tematik analiz yapılarak kod ve temalar belirlenmiştir. Görüşme soruları temelde programın ögeleri olan hedef, içerik, eğitim durumları ve sınama durumlarına dair öğretmen görüşlerini belirlemek üzere kurgulanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre öğretmenler yabancı dil ağırlıklı sınıf uygulamasını desteklemekle beraber, İngilizce öğretimi ile ilgili daha erken yaşlarda başlamanın daha yararlı olacağını ifade etmektedirler. Bunların yanı sıra, ders kitaplarındaki içeriğin sarmal programlama yaklaşımı ilkelerini karşılamadığını, görsel açıdan yetersiz olduğunu ve konuşma, dinleme becerilerine gereken ağırlığın verilmediğini belirtmektedirler. Uygulamanın isteğe bağlı olmasını doğru bulmamakla beraber, tüm ülkede zorunlu olmasının Türkiye’de İngilizce öğretimi ile ilgili yaşanan sorunların giderilmesinde daha yararlı olacağını vurgulamaktadırlar.

Abstract
In this study, we aim to the research is to evaluate the foreign language-based education application in the 5th grades of secondary school, which has been implemented since the 2017/2018 academic year in Turkey, according to the opinions of the teachers. For this purpose, data were collected through a semi-structured interview form consisting of 5 questions from 10 teachers working in 3 schools where the application was made, codes and themes were determined by making thematic analysis. The interview questions were basically designed to determine the views of the teachers on the objectives, content, educational situations and testing situations, which are the elements of the program. According to the results of the research, although the teachers support the preparatory class practice, they state that it would be more beneficial to start English teaching at an earlier age. In addition, they state that the content in the textbooks does not meet the principles of the spiral programming approach, is visually inadequate, and the necessary weight is not given to speaking and listening skills. Although they do not find it right that the application is optional, they emphasize that it would be more beneficial to eliminate the problems experienced in English teaching in Turkey if it is compulsory in the whole country.
