The place and importance of the activity-based teaching approach in mathematics education is felt more and more day by day. Activity-based teaching is an active learning approach that takes the student out of the passive position, focuses on the student's construction of knowledge with the activities they do, helps students to be involved in the process by doing and experiencing, and helps students to develop their high-level thinking skills. In this study, it is aimed to show that when gifted students are given the opportunity to do mathematics through activities, taking into account their interests, needs and abilities, they can progress like a mathematician and make logical inferences, generalizations and abstractions, and contribute to the development of mathematical knowledge with the mathematical structures they put forward. In this context, an example of an activity prepared at a high cognitive level has been tried to be presented. The study, in which the qualitative research method was used, was carried out with two 11th grade students in a state science high school. The RBC abstraction model is based on the analysis of the data. According to the findings of the research, it was shown that the students demonstrated the circumscribed triangle concept/structure knowledge through the regular polygon-themed activity.

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of teaching patterns to 8th grade students with interested-based examples on students’ academic achievement. The research was carried out with 48 eighth grade students studying at a secondary school in Kastamonu. 23 of these students are in the experimental group and 25 students are in the control group. Data of study collected through literature supported interest card and patterns achievement tests called (PAT1, PAT2) that are developed by the researchers. The reliability of the pattern achievement tests was found to be 0,810 for the PAT1 and 0,829 for the PAT2 with the pilot study. In the research, a pretest-posttest matched control group model which is one of the quasi-experimental design is used. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods are used in the analysis of data. First of all, it was checked whether the pre-test and post-test scores displayed normal distribution, and after it was determined that they showed normal distribution, the data were analyzed with the Independent Sample T test. The findings of the study showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the teaching model with interest-based examples and the teaching prepared according to current curriculum in the teaching of patterns. However, the fact that the effect is not statistically significant does not mean that the effectiveness of teaching model with interest-based examples is inadequate. In this context, it is recommended that mathematics teachers use the teaching model with interest-based examples in their lessons.

In recent years, it has been observed that studies on mathematical modeling have increased in mathematics education. When the studies on mathematical modeling are examined in the literature, there are studies that show that modeling is not well known by the students studying in our country and that studies should be done on this subject and that students should be introduced to mathematical modeling activities in their education starting from primary school. In this respect, considering the importance of modeling, emphasizing that students do not know much about modeling, and the necessity of disseminating modeling by making studies on this subject, it is aimed to introduce the students to mathematical modeling activities and present the actions they performed during the modeling process and the mathematical thoughts they put forth. In the application phase of the study, five students studying at a state science high school were first introduced to modeling activities and informed about the modeling process, and then a modeling activity was applied and the modeling process was examined according to Borromeo Ferri (2006)'s cognitive mathematical modeling stages (competences). With the findings of the study, the behaviors of the students in our study in the mathematical modeling process were tried to be evaluated according to the cognitive mathematical modeling stages. With the study, it was seen that the students revealed the characteristics of the stages of mathematical modeling in the solution process of the activity.

In the constantly changing and developing world, being a healthy and happy society that can keep up with innovations and develops on its own is only possible with education. The high rate of young population in Turkey requires an environment that can benefit from the young people at the optimum level and provide them with opportunities to receive good education. Among the primary responsibilities of parents is choosing the best and the right one for their children. One of the most difficult of these choices is experienced when trying to choose the right school. In this process, the decision-making process starts with choosing between private school and public school. The characteristics of families play an active role in making decisions while trying to make certain decisions in line with their children's future. While families try to make the right decisions for their children, both parents and private schools try to keep their personal interests at the forefront. Today, based on the physical structures of private schools and their advertisements emphasizing the academic success of their students, families can make their decisions based on the school’s name, student, and placebo effect. The parents believe that their student will be more successful academically thanks to the private school they choose from among the alternatives with the placebo effect, while at the same time, the private school they choose can be considered as an icon in the mind due to the positive physical conditions.
