A well-structured academic environment is vital for effective learning, with students’ attitudes towards instructional material playing a crucial role. However, when students lack motivation or interest, achieving desired learning outcomes becomes challenging. This study investigates the musical interests and attitudes of pre-service music teachers towards the music teaching profession, considering various variables. Data were obtained from 356 pre-service music teachers in the 2021-2022 academic year. According to the results obtained, significant differences were observed in the pre-service music teachers’ musical interest scores based on gender, grade, longest-lived place of residence, and concert-going frequency. Furthermore, attitude scores significantly differed according to the grade variable. A weak positive correlation was found between pre-service music teachers’ musical interest and attitude scores, indicating a relationship of 0.385 between predictor variables and the predicted variables. Additionally, students’ interpretation and education, vocalization and discovery, and integration of music-art branches scores accounted for 14.9% of the variance in attitude scores towards the music teaching profession.

In this study, it is aimed to scale the importance level of the problems encountered in distance education with the pairwise comparison method. In this context, the problems encountered in distance education were examined according to whether the participants had experience in distance education before the Covid 19 pandemic. The research was designed with descriptive scanning model. The sample of the study consists of 464 individuals, 105 academicians, 156 teachers and 203 university students, determined according to the convenient sampling method. The measurement tool consists of two parts, the first part includes demographic information, and the second part includes eight problems encountered in distance education. Scaling was performed from the full data matrix by using Case III model of Thurstone's law of comparative judgments. As a result of the study, it is seen that the most important problem experienced in distance education is “lack of student participation in the lesson and communication”.

In this study, it was aimed to identify the free fall motion, the characteristics of this motion, the level of knowledge and use of knowledge about the motion of prospective science teachers and the misconceptions they have about the issue and their reasons. The study was carried out with 61 science prospective teachers studying at the science teaching department of a state university of the 2022-2023 academic year, and a special case research design, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. Data collection forms containing three open-ended questions were created by the researchers in an attempt to identify the opinions of the prospective teachers on the subject, and the data were collected through these forms. If we evaluate the findings of the study in general terms, it is seen that the free fall motion was not fully understood in the minds of the students and had some uncertainties. It was found that the main reasons for this particular result were that the students could not fully internalize the concepts such as gravity, weight, mass and the effect of air resistance, and there were also the prospective teachers who could not scientifically explain the factors affecting the free fall motion, and the concept still had an intuitive structure.

College years in people's lives are a significant transition period in career-related decisions. One personal factor that impacts career-related decisions is an individual's career decision-making self-efficacy. On the other hand, today's complexity in the world of work, such as high employment rates, changes in the nature of work with technological developments, and increased uncertainties in modern life, make the career decision-making process more complex than ever. Drawing from the social cognitive career theory, this study investigated the role of cognitive-person (gender and hope) and contextual (socio-economic status and perceived social support) variables in predicting career decision-making self-efficacy among the 781 college students in Turkey. Hierarchical regression analyses showed that hope and perceived social support explained 38.5 % of the variation in career decision-making self-efficacy, among which hope was the strongest predictor. On the other hand, gender and socio-economic status are not robustly linked to career decision-making self-efficacy. Theoretical and practical implications for college-level career counseling and student support services are discussed.

Mediation has become a fundamental concept in foreign language teaching, encompassing diverse fields from diplomacy to law. Its essence lies in resolving conflicts between differing perspectives by building bridges, facilitating understanding, and enhancing communication. The Common European Framework of Recommendations for Languages (CEFR, 2001), mediation was linked to language skills and introduced as a fourth mode of communication. In the 2018 CEFR, n addition to reception, production and interaction, which cover the basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, mediation was formally introduced as the fourth form of communication. In the 2020 CEFR, the concept of mediation is given under the headings of mediation activities and mediation strategies, along with descriptive descriptors according to levels. This study investigates the conceptual domain of mediation skills, a vital component in language education, within a wider framework. The objective is to emphasize the connection between language instruction and mediation. Within this context, the scope of mediation skills is explained and analyzed within the study. The findings highlight mediation as a pivotal tool for effective learning. Accordingly, the study proposes recommendations to foster further exploration of mediation through practical and stakeholder-oriented approaches.

The goal of learning a foreign language is to promote a universal perspective for language learners in all areas of life. This includes the development of intercultural understanding, the promotion of tolerance and empathy towards various cultures and nationalities, as well as respect for others and their cultures. Otherwise, there is a risk that prejudices and stereotypes may arise in foreign language education. Therefore, the careful selection and preparation of learning content play an extremely important role. Additionally, it is of great significance to use various teaching materials in the classroom, especially authentic texts, to avoid monotony. Authentic texts can take various forms, including jokes. These can serve not only to activate learners but also to create an effective and lively teaching environment, along with a humorous atmosphere in the classroom. This paper introduces an intercultural teaching approach based on a joke to illustrate practical implementation. It is also explained how a joke can be used as teaching material to uncover and address prejudices and stereotypes.

This study investigates the role of psychological resilience and self-regulation in predicting aggression in 48-72-month-old children. The study was conducted with 170 children. As a data collection tool, SYDD-30 - Anger-Aggression (KS) Sub-Scale, Self-Regulation Skills Scale for 4-6 Years-Old Children (Teacher Form) and 5/6 Ages ÇOPIO- Psychological Resilience Sub-Scale was used. According to the correlation analysis, a negative relationship exists between aggression tendencies and psychological resilience and self-regulation skills in children. According to hierarchical regression analysis, self-regulation alone explains 14% of the variance in the total aggression variable in children. It is seen that the resilience contributed 3.5% to the variance; thus, the total variance explained increased to 17.4%. According to the t-test results regarding the significance of the regression coefficients, self-regulation, and resilience were negative predictors. The findings are discussed in the light of educational implications.

The individual's first connection with the world begins with hearing. Therefore, it is achieved when the individual has effective listening skills, which constitute an important part of learning and enable him to exist in society and communicate well with other individuals. Considering its connection with other language skills and the fact that it improves the social and communicative aspects of humans, who are social beings, it is obvious that it is necessary to think more about listening skills and make more efforts to develop this skill in students. In this context, it is within the responsibility of Turkish teachers to acquire listening skills in a more formal way in educational environments. The teacher should make the students understand the importance of listening/watching, not just hearing, and should convey the listening/watching skill acquisitions in Turkish textbooks to the students. In the light of all this, the purpose of the study is to reveal the teachers' perspectives on listening skill activities in the Secondary School Turkish course. 7 Turkish teachers working in a secondary school in Malatya were included in the study. Care was taken to ensure that these teachers were in different schools throughout the province. 5 of the participants in the study are female and 2 are male teachers. The data obtained in the study were collected by meeting with a separate teacher every day through a semi-structured interview. Codes, categories and themes were created from these collected data through content analysis. In the interviews, teachers found that the listening texts and activities were insufficient to achieve the achievements. While stating the students' approaches to the listening texts and the processing of the activities, the participants generally stated that the students were willing. Participants stated that the use of technology will contribute to students in many ways such as attention, interest and efficiency. At the end of the study, suggestions were made in the light of the results obtained.

A petition is an official form of written communication utilized in social and public contexts to convey individuals’ requests, suggestions, and complaints. This form of writing requires a comprehensive grasp of both content and structure and plays a pivotal role in fulfilling communal requirements. Consequently, it becomes imperative for every individual residing in Turkey to write accurate texts of this type. Accordingly, the present study seeks to assess the proficiency of international students studying Turkish as a foreign language in composing petitions. In the survey model research, data were collected from 125 students studying at various universities’ language teaching centers, all of whom were at the C1 language proficiency level, through the Petition Scoring Key, an instrument developed for this study. The findings highlighted that the domains in which students made the most errors when writing petitions were as follows: Location Information (81.6%), Name-Surname-Signature (80.8%), Punctuation (80.8%), Spelling (79.2%), Formulaic Expressions (69.6%), Communication (66.4%), Page View (66.4%), Addressing (60%), Date (38.4%), Introductory Elements (34.4%), Justification (27.2%), and Requests/Complaints (19.2%).

It can be said that the increasing number of comparative studies in foreign language teaching is important in terms of making language teaching more qualified. It is clear that the relationship between languages should be examined in many aspects from common words to grammatical differences, from alphabet to pronunciation. One of the materials that can reveal this is textbooks. Because the different features of each language can be seen concretely in the written materials created and this situation can facilitate comparative studies. Hereby, in this study, the B1 level course materials used in teaching Turkish and Georgian as a foreign language were compared in terms of unit themes and text types by utilizing the document analysis method. The main question of the study is based on the similarities and differences of the related issues, and the ait is to clarify what should be considered in the teaching of languages in the context of the related subject. As a result of the study, many findings that can facilitate language teaching and some suggestions that can be developed have been reached and these are shown in tables and inferences that can contribute to the literature have been made.

Popper’s Philosophy of Science

In this study, the contribution of Popper, one of the philosophers of science, to the philosophy of science is discussed. Popper set the criterion of science, falsifiability and critical rationality, which he put forward in his book The Logic of Scientific Research, has put forward a new criterion of delimitation between science and non-science. In this study, which was designed with a qualitative research method, a holistic single case study design was employed and document review was used as a data collection tool. Relevant documents were analyzed, analyzed and divided into themes. The findings are discussed under the titles of Popper's life, Popper's understanding of knowledge, critical rationalism, science, limitation, theory, scientific method, falsification, and three world theory. According to Popper, science consists of the sum of efforts that can be disproved on the basis of observation. Science, which is based on testing and criticism, is a rational activity. Popper proposed the principles of deduction and falsifiability based on theory instead of the principles of induction and verificationism suggested by the logical positivists, and brought a new breath to the philosophy of science.
