Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine whether digital and printed media reading skills of teacher candidates from Marmara and Kocaeli Universities vary depending on various demographic variables. The sample of this study was composed of 573 teacher candidates in three academic branches; Elementary education, Preschool education and Turkish education at Marmara University and Kocaeli University. The data were collected by using a personal information form (7 items: sex, age, name of university, academic branch and ownership of a book case, ownership of a computer) and a 5 point likert scale which is called “Reading Habits Assessment Scale” (18 items). The independent groups t-test and ANOVA were used to analyse the data. The results of the analyses revealed significant variances between the reading skills of teachers according to the sex, age, name of university, academic branch, ownership of book cases and computers variables.
