Abstract

The purpose of this study is to adopt “Language Learning Strategies Inventory”, developed by Oxford (1990), to the teaching of Turkish Language to foreigners. The data were obtained by applying the inventory on the 564 students learning Turkish as a foreign language. In order to verify the inventory’s 6-factor structure, the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) is used. According to the results of the analysis, the reliability coefficient of the subscales is determined to be between 74 and 83. It is found that the Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient for the entire inventory is 80. To determine the test-retest reliability coefficient, the inventory applied on 71 students again after 4 weeks. It is found that the correlation coefficient between the scores obtained from the both of the inventory applications is 87. According to the results, it can be said that the inventory used in this study gives consistent results. In accordance with the results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis for the inventory, the values of x2 is 2,171; RMSEA is 046; AGFI is 92; and NFI is 96. As a result, based on the findings obtained from the analysis, this can be proposed that, the Language Strategies Inventory” has been verified as a model of 6-factor structure consisting of 50 matters.
