Abstract

In this study, the views of the physics teachers related to Physics 11 textbook suitable for the 2007 Secondary School Physics Program were evaluated with respect to the variables of in-service program participation, state of use of the book, recognition of education program and recognition degree of the book. The working group of the research utilizing a survey model which is based on qualitative and quantitative scanning methods is made up of 82 physics teachers who were involved with teaching of Physics 11 textbook for the education years of 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 working in the central districts secondary education establishments of the province of İzmir. The data collection tool consisted of a three-part questionnaire with a textbook assessment scale comprising seven sub-dimensions and 131 items, personal information and additional questions. The quantitative data were analyzed with descriptive analysis, t-test and ANOVA, and content analysis was used for the qualitative data. This book was evaluated as good with respect to its wholeness and forsix sub-dimensions by the physics teachers. Physics 11 books was found to be appropriate for the categories of its content, visualization, daily life connections, and appropriation to the spiraling structure of the education program with being effective and student focalized. But it was criticized for the categories of the order of subjects, examples and activities, and comprehension with its content concentration. Conclusion-oriented and improvement for the textbook suggestions were put forward.
