Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the perceptions of elementry school 6th grade students about patriotism value by using metaphors. In this study which is designed as survey model qualitative research design was used to collect data. Data were conducted with 69 students, chosen voluntarily from 6th grade in their elementry school education in Konak, İzmir. Data were analyzed with qualitative methods. The metaphors which are revealed as a result of content analysis technique gathered and explicated under nine categories. As a consequence of data analysis, The most common category of students they mention family elements, concrete objects, has been heroic elements. The least until their categories, actions, has proved that elements of the military and Ataturk and ancestors. Students most frequently mentioned metaphors are mother, father, Ataturk, love, teachers , flag and martyr.
