EXAMINATION OF POST GRADUATE THESES MADE IN VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION FIELD IN TURKEY BETWEEN 2005 AND 2015

Abstract

The purpose of this research is the evaluation of postgraduate and doctoral theses made in vocational and technical education field in Turkey between 2005 and 2015. Within the scope of this research, 182 theses were reached at the thesis-screening center of Higher Education Council (YÖK), which were made in vocational and technical education field. Out of these theses reached, 161 of them are postgraduate theses and 21 of them are doctoral theses. This is a qualitative research in a general screening model. In addition, this research is a meta-evaluation study based on the document analysis of postgraduate theses that were selected between the related years as data source. Theses in the research were examined in terms of the type of thesis, date of issue, university, institute and department at that it was prepared, gender of thesis writer, the title of thesis advisor, research subject, research methods, sample type, data sources, data collection tools and data analysis methods. As the research data is taken into account, it was determined that male researchers studied in this field mostly, postgraduate theses are more between the related years but regarding subject field, doctoral theses are less with a rate of one by eight in the following. A determination is made that advisers with a title of assistant professor and professor contributed to make thesis more in this field, the number of theses made is maximum in 2007 and minimum in 2011 between the related years and no doctoral thesis is made in some years. It is among the notable results that the majority of these theses is quantitative researches, the studies in screening model are preferred more by researchers, the subject of theses intended the development and evaluation of modular programs.
