Abstract

The objective of the present study is to examine the effect of attending musical education on the aggression level of high school age students. Sample group of the study, which was conducted with survey model, included 304 students that attended music classes (60) and that did not attend music classes (244). A personal Information Form and Aggression Questionnaire developed by Buss and Peryy (1992) and adapted to Turkish by Can (2002), who also conducted validity and reliability studies in Turkish population, were used in the study as data collection tools. For data analysis, the differences between the aggression levels of the students based on the types of high schools they attend and based on the gender within the context of each high school were analyzed with independent sample t-test. The difference between the students’ aggression levels based on their grade levels separately in each high school was analyzed with one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Study findings demonstrated that the scores of male students were higher in both school types based on gender variable, the scores of students who attended music classes were significantly different based on the grade level variable and the scores of the students who did not attend music classes were higher based on the high school type
