Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine whether the teaching with collaborative learning and the other teaching methods which were carried out on 7th grade students for “rational numbers” caused a statistically significant difference on students’ achievements or not. In this study, a pretest-posttest with control group quasi-experimental design was used as a research design of the study. This research took place in the first term of 2015-2016 education year, in a school which is dependent on ministry of national education in Palandöken/Erzurum with students all from seventh grade of secondary school. The application went on four weeks namely twenty lesson period. While the students in the experimental group were taught by using collaborative learning, the students in the control group were taught by using traditional teaching. The data collection instrument “Rational Numbers Achievement Test” was developed and tested in terms of reliability by the researchers. To analyse datas obtained from the algebraic equations achievement test on the computer SPSS Windows 16.00 statistic package programme and Mann Whitney U analysis is done. After analysing statistical datas it seems that both the success of experimental group and control groups are developed but when the achievement group and control group are compared, there is a big difference in favour of experimental group.
