Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between power styles of school administrators and teacher leadership. A total of 303 teachers employed in state primary, secondary and high schools located in Karabuk province participated in this study designed as a correlational one under quantitative research method. The Power Style Scale developed by Koşar (2008) and Teacher Leadership Scale developed by Beycioğlu and Aslan (2010) were used to gather data. Pearson Product-Moment Correlational Coefficient and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis were conducted to analyse the data. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the school administrators’ power styles predicted each sub-dimension of teacher leadership significantly and that school administrators' power styles were an important variable explaining the leadership behaviors of the teachers. It was also concluded that coercive power was the only variable among school administrators' power styles that separately, positively and significantly predicted the institutional improvement, professional improvement, and collaboration among colleagues;dimensions of teacher leadership. Findings obtained from the current study were discussed in relation to the related field and some suggestions were presented.
