Abstract

Disputes, conflicts and contradictions are natural in almost all areas of social life. The concept of conflict in general; it can be defined as disagreement, contradiction or incompatibility between individuals or groups within themselves or between them for various reasons. Schools, as a small example of social life, is an organization where human relations are intense. Consequently, conflicts are inevitable. The aim of this research is to reveal the causes of conflict in schools and to determine how the conflicts are resolved in terms of teachers and administrators. Descriptive scanning method was used in the study. The research group consists of administrators and teachers in public secondary schools in Çankaya district of Ankara. The opinions of school administrators and teachers were obtained through interviews. Administrators and teachers were asked open-ended questions and the answers were analyzed by qualitative analysis techniques. The causes of the conflicts in schools are categorized under three headings. These; individual, organizational and managerial conflicts. In order to solve conflicts, individual, organizational and managerial conflict resolution strategies are tried to be determined. The most commonly used conflict resolution methods are reconciliation, persuasion, avoidance, ignoring, changing the bureaucratic structure, oppression, indifference to conflicts.
